7:00pm    Linux 101 discontinued
Category : SIG     Fee : US$ 0

The Linux 101 meeting is for anyone who is getting started with Linux,
or thinking about starting to use Linux.

Switching to Linux requires a bit of relearning, just as switching
from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires some relearning. But once you
get started, Linux is easier to use than Windows. If you think you
have to compile software yourself or learn to use the command line,
then you haven't seen Linux in the last few years.

10:00am    Computer Investing - canceled
Category : SIG     Fee : US$ 0
The Computer investing SIG was formed to combine members of the HAL-PC Mutual Fund SIG and the American Association of Individual Investors Computer SIG in order to look at all forms of investing used by the members. As members brought more knowledge and experience, the number of financial programs increased. Members demonstrate the programs they use to assist in making investment decisions. We welcome new
members who bring a lot or no knowledge to the group. We are continually looking for people who are willing to share their experiences with us and make presentations to the group. We intend to learn from each other.

6:30pm    Microsoft Server
Category : SIG     Fee : US$ 0
The SIG will begin studying Server 2008 on September 5th, using the Microsoft Self-Paced Training books. Over the next year, the SIG will review the three books preparing for the exams leading to the Server 2008 Administrator certification. These provide a good survey of Server 2008, even though many SIG members are interested only in learning about Server 2008 rather than taking the exams.

The SIG will have four Server 2008 installations for hands-on training.

11:00am    Building Computer Skills
Category : SIG     Fee : US$
Whether you are interested in career advancement or just home computing, building computer skills can make you more reliable and productive. I used online videos to learn how to edit a wiki, install a software package, and program in python. I started this group because I think interacting with like minded people would supplement watching the videos. Let's meet on a regular basis to learn beginner+ to intermediate computer skills. Each meeting topic could be a stand alone mini-topic, or part of a course. ...
