<cal:ev_description>The Ham Radio SIG is a small group for the discussion of interfacing and using computers in all phases of today's Amateur Radio Operations including Amateur Radio Satellite operations. The holding of an amateur radio license is NOT a prerequisite - we can point you in that direction if you like - under current FCC Rules and Regulations it's gotten a whole lot easier, and proficiency in Morse code is no longer a requirement.

The International Space Station is in orbit and manned - with Amateur call signs RZ3DZR/DL01SS/NA1SS assigned to Station Alpha. The crew is on the air on both 2 meters and 70 cm with voice and packet operations;
and HF operations are in the works.

There is literally a whole constellation of ham related satellites up there to work, most currently in LEO (Low Earth Orbit), with even plans for a Geosynchronous Orbit bird - - dozens available during each 24 hour pass over the Houston area. We can fill you in on all the details and
point you in the proper direction.
Over the next year, the SIG will review the three books preparing for the exams leading to the Server 2008 Administrator certification. These provide a good survey of Server 2008, even though many SIG members are interested only in learning about Server 2008 rather than taking the exams.
The SIG will have four Server 2008 installations for hands-on training.
As members brought more knowledge and experience, the number of financial programs increased. Members demonstrate the programs they use to assist in making investment decisions. We welcome new
Because of the difficulty of learning from lecture style workshops, we have changed the format to a more hands-on approach. We ask that you bring your notebook in with you to work through the examples with us.

The Ham Radio SIG is a small group for the discussion of interfacing and using computers in all phases of today's Amateur Radio Operations including Amateur Radio Satellite operations. The holding of an amateur radio license is NOT a prerequisite - we can point you in that direction if you like - under current FCC Rules and Regulations it's gotten a whole lot easier, and proficiency in Morse code is no longer a requirement.

The International Space Station is in orbit and manned - with Amateur call signs RZ3DZR/DL01SS/NA1SS assigned to Station Alpha. The crew is on the air on both 2 meters and 70 cm with voice and packet operations;
and HF operations are in the works.

The Linux 101 meeting is for anyone who is getting started with Linux,
or thinking about starting to use Linux.

Switching to Linux requires a bit of relearning, just as switching
from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires some relearning. But once you
get started, Linux is easier to use than Windows. If you think you
have to compile software yourself or learn to use the command line,
then you haven't seen Linux in the last few years.

Discussions are directed by the questions of the participants, and
typically include:

How to get started with Linux

Which distributions are best for beginners

Installing Linux while still keeping Windows available

How to install software (it's easier than Windows!)

How to get support

And any questions that you bring.

We cover all areas of database and GUI development with Microsoft products. We are covering development with Visual Studio using both C# and VB.net. We will cover different aspects of GUI design with MS Access as people want. We also cover aspects of SQL Server, user-defined functions, stored procedures, views and table design that developers deal with. Because of the difficulty of learning from lecture style workshops, we have changed the format to a more hands-on approach. We ask that you bring your notebook in with you to work through the examples with us. We feel that getting the examples on your own machine and typing them in yourself will reinforce the learning process.
Members (newbies as well as those more knowledgeable) will get hands-on experience working with the entire PC, including motherboards, video cards, USB ports and other stuff found inside that funny looking box, tall or flat. Anyone who wants to find out what's inside the computer is welcome.
Over the next year, the SIG will review the three books preparing for the exams leading to the Server 2008 Administrator certification. These provide a good survey of Server 2008, even though many SIG members are interested only in learning about Server 2008 rather than taking the exams.
