INTERESTED IN FORMING A PROFESSIONAL DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SIG?
Bob Stewart would like to hear from others in HAL that would be interested in starting a professional level digital photography SIG. He envisions a workshop style SIG where members work with each other to hone their skills in different areas of photography. These areas would include portraits, weddings, business issues, and software. His potential meeting day is the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9 AM to Noon. Please contact Bob at robert@RLStewartPhotography.com to express interest.

COMPUTER INVESTING SIG: Fridays -- 10:00 am (NOTE NEW TIME!!!):
Our Friday AM investment sig will continue to meet Friday at 10am. Our goal continues to offer programs to help investors deal with a difficult market using and demonstrating programs designed for the individual to assess and make thoughtful decisions. We use four different programs to accomplish this and they are demonstrated on a regular basis. We also maintain a
refined market web site that is open to all.

MULTI MEDIA SIG: Saturday, May 3 -- 9:30 am
We will have a demonstration of Cubase, one of the best known music applications worldwide from Steinberg. Cubase is a series of MIDI, music sequencer and digital audio editing computer applications (commonly known as a DAW - Digital Audio Workstation). We will also talk about the team's plans for the 48 Hour Film Contest starting 6 June.

So, if you are a beginner, this is the place to start. Bring your notebook or desktop with you for the SIG. This is a hands-on presentation.

STOCK MARKET: Saturday, May 10 -- 2:00 pm
Our current financial crisis has reduced many shares to attractive levels which offer long term potential not seen in several years. This class emhasizes fundamentals rather than technical trading. It is intended for long term investors. Ideal for age 20 and up. Covers personal finance, budgeting, intermarket analysis and equity securities analysis. Please email the SIG leader if you plan to attend.

DIGITAL IMAGING SIG: Saturday, May 17 -- 1:00 pm
This month Phil and I are going to go over using chroma-key backgrounds. We will show how to use both the blue and green backgrounds and how to switch them out for others using software. This is real handy for pet photography. As always, bring your cameras do you can get in on the fun. Also, I want to correct something I said at last month's SIG. Adobe Lightroom is $299 not $199. I remembered the introductory price. You can get the academic version for as low as $98.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION

The annual election of HAL-PC's Board of Directors will be held in June. Candidate statements and full details of voting procedure will be available in the Spring edition of the HAL-PC Magazine.

MAY VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

May's HAL-PC Volunteer of the Month is Beverly Rosenbaum. Beverly is a long-time dedicated member of HAL-PC who works primarily on the magazine. She takes your email questions, researches them and publishes the answers in her 'Email Bag' column to help us all. Her editing talents are a gift to the magazine staff. And on a personal note, Beverly was the first HAL-PC member I met in 1994 when I wandered into the software library at the old offices on Post Oak. She was warm, gracious and helpful then and she continues to be now. Thank you, Beverly, for being such an asset to HAL-PC!
